Huskies are always in heat -- for the benefit of those who got confused -- so you needn't worry if you're thinking of getting a huskies as a companion, the animals will never be lonely. When a female huskies is in heat (which is almost all the time, for a period of about 30 days to a week) and ready to breed, she will display behaviors that suggest she is in season. If you keep a female huskies in a large enclosure, you can minimize her contact with males and still enjoy watching her breed.
You might well ask, if huskies breed all the time, won't they just produce a baby huskies all the time? The answer to that question is complicated a bit by the fact the males and females do not all come into heat at the same time. One of the most common mistakes people make when trying to get huskies is thinking a female in heat means you can breed her -- but that notion is strictly for pets and not for working stock.
Let's say you have a group of huskies and one of them happens to be in season, but the others are not. If you breed the in-season huskies, assuming she's gone into heat (that's a very big assumption, and is another reason not to breed her, let's say she's not in heat) you would be putting her in heat. It doesn't matter if you are the breeder or not. A female huskies in heat want(s) to breed -- with everyone. She will not leave the place. It's her way.
In certain areas of the United States, there's a law against it. You can't breed huskies. If you've never seen a huskies in heat, it's something you want to see. (I guarantee it's bad for your health to be around a female huskies).
Puppies are usually bred in late April or early May, then they put them on a diet and start training when they're two or three months old. Then during the month of August, you bring them to Great Rivers Kennel and we'll start training them and prepping them for life as service dogs
I don’t even know where to begin. Huskies have a reputation for being lazy. For instance, I’ve seen very few that were actually used for sledding. They’re used more for leisurely dog sledding or just running around with a sled for recreation, which to a dog not specifically trained for sledding means a big mistake.
The other thing I’ve always wanted to know is “What happens if you put two huskies together?”. I’ve seen them done and it’s no pretty site. I’m not talking two dogs one side of Hidalgo versus the other side of Hidalgo. It’s two huskies being thrown together and their reaction. They don’t like it.
